Brothers Marty & Sid Berman relocated to Tucson from New York and found employment in a hardware store with Anton Benjamin, who sold the company to the Berman brothers in 1950, establishing Benjamin Supply. Sid Berman soon retired and Marty and his wife Ruth Berman ran Benjamin Supply until Marty’s death in 1986.
It was Ruth and her son Mark Berman who then grew and transformed the business into what it is today by establishing the showroom, creating a small plumber’s counter in Sierra Vista, and purchasing the historic 1918 Tucson Warehouse & Transfer Company building.
Benjamin Supply was a pioneer on the west cost of the country in this industry and were the first in the state to offer products by Delta.
Benjamin Supply’s first two locations were downtown and in both instances outgrew the spaces. It was around the turn of the millennium that the entire operation was moved to the Tucson Warehouse & Transfer Co building where they are located today.
Ruth worked full time well into her 80s and thrived in the male-dominated plumbing field. By the end of her life in January 2019, she continued to visit the showroom and her Benjamin Supply family and still marveled at all they were able to accomplish.
Mark Berman was passionate about historic preservation, supporting local arts, and the revitalization of downtown Tucson. This led to his decision of allowing Rock Martinez to transform the west side of the Warehouse and Transfer building into a spectacular mural known as The Goddess of Agave – one of the most, if not the most, iconic mural in Tucson.
Mark passed in February of 2022, and in August of 2022, third-generation family business headquartered in Mesa, Az, Central Arizona Supply, acquired Benjamin Supply.
