Are you wanting to make some updates to your home but not ready for the mess, stress, and cost of a full kitchen renovation? Maybe you’re happy with your current kitchen but have that one thing you would change to make it perfect for your needs. We’re here to share a few low-cost, high-impact updates that will make your kitchen feel like an entirely new space!
Switch Your Sink
The sink is often the focal point of the kitchen, so it’s important to put your best foot forward with a stylish and functional sink that suits your space. To update your sink without having to change your preexisting counters or cabinetry you’ll have to turn off the water supply valves, turn on your faucet to drain the remaining water, disconnect the water supply, unplug the garbage disposal (if you have one), remove your current sink (usually adhered with a sealant) and find a new sink that fits your vision and the space left by the previous sink. Check that your new sink matches the measurements of your old sink to ensure a proper fit.
Change Out Your Faucet
If your kitchen faucet is leaking, showing significant mineral buildup, has low water pressure, or is showing visible rust, it’s time to let it retire. By updating your tired tapware to a trendy or timeless finish, you can change the feeling of your entire kitchen. Extend the functionality of your kitchen with touchless technology, voice command, and personalized presets with a smart faucet.
Make a Hardware Switch
Switching out your cabinet hardware is a simple, easy project that even those with little renovation experience can DIY! Cabinet knobs and pulls may be a small element of your kitchen’s design, but they have a big impact on the practical function of your kitchen. It’s important that your cabinet pulls are the proper size and shape for your kitchen cabinets and drawers. To ensure that your pulls are the proper visual and physical weight for your cabinet or drawer a general rule of thumb is that your cabinet pulls should be one-third the height of your cabinet or one-third the width of your drawer. Make sure that you measure for the holes your previous hardware will leave. It would be easiest to find knobs or pulls to fit the same holes, but if you’re looking for a big change, you can fill and drill holes to move your knobs and pulls as desired.
Update Your Appliances
Your kitchen appliances should last anywhere from 6-15 years, depending on the appliance. If your appliances have been showing signs of wear and tear it mig ht be time for an upgrade. Updating your range, refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, oven, or cooktop will not only up the visual appeal of your kitchen, but also improve its functionality, energy efficiency, and resale value. Add an Island
If your kitchen has an open floorplan with plenty of unused floorspace, you may consider adding an island. Whether you’re looking to add a pop of color and embrace a two-toned kitchen or want to find a close match to your preexisting cabinets, the additional cabinet and counter space will up the functional value of your kitchen. Make sure to carefully measure your space and check for proper clearance (at least 36 inches of clear walking space around the island) to ensure that an island is right for your space.
