Picking up and travelling to an exotic destination may not always be feasible. Plan to chill out at home with a “Staycation”. But do it right! Here are some tips to help you kick back, relax and STAY HOME.
First, set up some ground rules so everyone involved knows the boundaries, including the specific days of your staycation and rules for cell phone and internet use. Make sure everyone on the family understands this is ‘family time’ and to plan activities with friends outside the staycation dates. Hire a house cleaner to come in and make everything sparkle. Prep and more prep – stock the fridge, raid the book store, gather any supplies you’ll need to relax and enjoy. There are no errands on a staycation!
1. Go off the grid:
Turn your phones off – better yet, put them in a drawer. Time isn’t a thing on a staycation, you gotta go with the flow. Consider putting a stop on your mail for the week too. Anything that reminds you of ‘real life’ is verboten. If you need to check in with work, set specific times for that and let your co-workers/boss know that this is your time off.

2. No cooking:
Order food in or try some new restaurants – places you wouldn’t expect to run into anyone you know.
3. Laundry:
I hope we don’t have to explain this one. Make sure you start off your staycation with a clean pile of clothes. Save all the dirties for when you come ‘home’.

4. Queue up your favorite playlists:
Set your mood, be it an island vibe, country tunes or anything that makes you feel festive and relaxed. One of our favorite products is the Aquatunes from Grohe. It’s Bluetooth music for your shower – OR for the beach. Take it wherever you want to hear your favorite music.
5. Stock up on beach-reads:
Just as if you’re travelling to a destination, grab a stack of fun, easy reads to pass the time.

6. Turn your bath into a spa retreat:
Prep your getaway with plush towels or a robe, essential oils, delicious smelling lotions, and make a pitcher of cucumber water. Draw a warm bath, add the scents- boom, home spa experience. For extra luxury, install a towel warmer to keep things cozy. Check out the Amba towel warmers – tons of styles and options. And invest in a TOTO Washlet. Nothing says luxury more than a toilet that opens/closes, flushes and sprays you all at the touch of a button. BONUS: towel warmer and washlet remain in your bath, to help make everyday a little more special.
7. Steam it:
Now’s your chance to buy the home steam experience you’ve been dreaming of. Amerec’s got home steam and sauna rooms to die for.

8. Stretch it:
Prepare by buying a new yoga mat, pop in a video and make it a private yoga class.
9. Blooms:
Buy some fresh flowers the day before your staycation starts – or the ultimate extravagance, have a small arrangement of fresh flowers delivered every day of your ‘trip’.

10. Hotel Bed:
Buy high thread count sheets for your bed and make sure your pillows are up to snuff. Put clean, fresh sheets on the bed the morning of to create a 5-star-hotel-like bed experience.
11. Do something new:
Do something new and different in town. Pretend you’re a tourist visiting your city – visit the places you’ve ‘always meant’ to see.
